Green #LifeHack : Enjoying Backyard Wildlife is a Great Family Activity During Quarantine
Green Life Hack: backyard wildlife.
You may have had to cancel your safari trip to the Serengeti, but that doesn’t mean you can’t see wildlife. In fact, taking time to learn about the local wildlife in your area provides fun family activities that include making your property more hospitable to your animal neighbors!
Are you stuck inside dreaming of traveling to Africa and going on a safari? Or a yacht trip through the Caribbean and using your go-pro to capture shots of marine animals?
Don’t let Covid-19 stop you from enjoying incredible wildlife. Urban Wildlife (ie. the random critters you take for granted, or call “pests”, in your backyard) are pretty incredible.
You’re not traveling but the birds and butterflies are using your backyard as a hotel, during their migrations. Next time you see a monarch fly through your yard, imagine they just left the Canadian winters, took a trip through California, and ended up on a five star vacation with bae in Mexico!
Did you know squirrels look different all over the world?
Why not take notice of your backyard wildlife and then make it a family activity to identify the animals, flowers, and plants. Once you know what kind of flora and fauna frequent your yard, you can do some google searching and make sure none of your plants are poison for them, or that they have everything they need to flourish.
My yard attracts a ton of hummingbirds - but as you’ll see in my video, i found out the flowers they were coming to visit provides little to no nectar because it’s an invasive species. And I made it into a fun weekend project to help out the hummingbird with an alternate source of nectar for their visits!
