THE ZEBRA EDIT
The largest animal migration in the world takes place annually between Tanzania and Kenya. While East Africa's wildebeest get most of the attention, they don't travel alone. Woven in between the distracting stripes of zebra, wildebeest find protection from predators and depend on their intelligence for this ruthless annual journey. In the summer of 2021, controversy took over East Africa's conservation community as the great migration overlapped with Tanzania's control burns. The photos are dramatic. Miles and miles of bright green grass charred solid black, the red hot fires blazing rapidly and burning everything in sight, except for the large termite mounds, which miraculously survive the flames. While the air was thick with grey smoke, hungry and thirsty zebras search for any patches of grass to graze, that the fire has had mercy on. These photos, taken in Kenya's Massai Mara, journal that incredible search.
